Search Engines: MSN on overdrive, Yahoo hungry, Google bobbles in last
As I delay (groan) finishing up the second part of my blog on chargebacks. I thought I’d share some of my recent search engine observations.
And what I am seeing is MSN Search is mass indexing at a staggering scale lately! As hungry and seemingly numerous as Yahoo’s Intomeki spiders are, MSN is somehow beating even them lately. (And that’s no easy feat!) Google went from — at least for me and based on my experiences and logs — doing indexes-only six months ago to a smidge better but only lately.

Is this the time that the great will fall? Hardly. But what we are seeing recently is a time when some Internet behemoths, as my grandmother used to say, "got too big for their britches". To put it in more technical terms, mark Q1 2005 in your business calendars as the start of major paradigm shifts in both the search engine and auction industries that will reverberate for years.
Depending on your age, you may remember the days when computing was dominated by a company so big and for so long it was as well known for its moniker as it’s name: "Big Blue". IBM. Hardware was king. Software was considered fairly unimportant "intangible things" that somehow ran on hardware. IBM was everywhere. The PC was new. And among the many little companies out there was one run by a bunch of T-shirted dweebs in their 20s called Microsoft.
